Big Day Out

El Big Day Out (BDO) es un festival de música anual que se celebra en Australia y Nueva Zelanda. En el año 2006 tenía 8 escenarios diferentes donde se dan cabida a grupos de música nu metal y música electrónica, así como artistas internacionales menos conocidos y actuaciones de grupos locales.

Historia

El festival comenzó en 1992 como un único festival con sede en Sídney, aunque en 1993 fue ampliado a Melbourne, Perth y Adelaida. En 1994 se añadieron shows en Auckland, Nueva Zelanda y Gold Coast, Queensland. En el año 1997 se anunció que el festival de ese año sería el último, y aunque el festival de 1998 se canceló, regresó en 1999.

Durante el Big Day Out del año 2001 Jessica Michalik, una adolescente, fue aplastada por la multitud durante el concierto de Limp Bizkit.«Durst breaks silence». New Musical Express.  El forense criticó los sistemas de control de la multitud, así como al cantante de Limp Bizkit, Fred Durst por sus comentarios.^{[cita requerida]} Los shows posteriores han incorporado una nueva barrera que reduce el riesgo de avalancha humana.

En el 2004 debido a la popularidad del festival en Sídney, se repitió el espectáculo con el mismo cartel para ambos días salvo por algunos artistas locales. Este hecho se repitió en el 2006.

El festival también cuenta con un foro de discusión en internet, Big Day Out Forum, que cuenta con alrededor de 4.000 miembros.
