Sophie Ellis-Bextor habría debutado en el ámbito de la música en 1997, como vocalista del grupo theaudience. La banda lanzó un solo álbum, y 4 sencillos. Su mayor éxito fue A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed, que alcanzó el puesto n.º 25 del UK Singles Chart, pero la banda se habría separado poco después de las sesiones de grabación de su segundo álbum.

En el 2000, Sophie se catapultó a la fama mundial con su éxito Groovejet (If This Ain't Love), que alcanzó el puesto n.º 1 de los conteos de Reino Unido, Australia y Nueva Zelanda. En el 2001 debuta como solista con el álbum Read My Lips, que vendió 1.5 millones de copias a nivel mundial,^[1]​ y cuyo mayor éxito fue el sencillo Murder On The DanceFloor.

En el 2003, saca su segundo álbum, Shoot From The Hip, el cual obtuvo cierto éxito, pero ya que Sophie estaba embarazada, se debió cancelar el proyecto de promoción y la gira del álbum, convirtiéndose en un fracaso. Su tercer álbum, Trip The Light Fantastic obtuvo un escaso pero valorado éxito en Europa, pero la gira ha sido suspendida varias veces. En 2011 sale a la venta su cuarta producción titulada Make a Scene el cual obtuvo un éxito moderado sobre todo en Reino Unido, Rusia e Italia. Este álbum fue el primero editado bajo su propio sello discográfico EBGB's. Ahora Sophie se encuentra a punto de lanzar el primer sencillo de lo que será su quinta producción de estudio el cual será titulado Wanderlust, el primer corte del álbum está expectado para ser lanzado a finales del 2013, Sophie dio un adelanto mediante la descarga gratuita de un demo titulado Young Blood.^[2]​
