Historia

El 17 de mayo de 1886 dos clubes de una fábrica de Motherwell (Glencairn F.C. y Alpha F.C.) se unen y forman al Motherwell Football Club. En los primeros años usaron el estadio de Alpha F.C., luego fueron obligados a irse. En 1893 en la reunión anual se decidió que el club se profesional y que jugara en la Segunda División, diez años después logran subir a la Primera División. El color del club en sus inicios era principalmente azul, pero en 1912 cambian a los que usan actualmente.

De las últimas 5 temporadas, en 4 se ha clasificado para disputar competición internacional.
