Liga Premier de Ghana

La Liga Premier de Ghana, también llamada First Capital Plus Premier League por razones de patrocinio, es la máxima competición futbolística de Ghana, se estableció oficialmente en 1958 después de la independencia del país el 6 de marzo de 1957, y es organizada por la Asociación de Fútbol de Ghana.

Historia

Un primer campeonato local llamado Liga de Accra se organizó durante el período colonial, por primera vez en 1920. La competición se jugó doce veces hasta 1953. El club principal en ese entonces fue el Accra Hearts of Oak SC, que ganaron la Liga de Accra seis veces en 1925, 1927, 1929, 1933, 1935 y 1953.

Un primer intento de organizar un campeonato nacional se celebró en 1956, un año antes de la independencia de Ghana. Entre los catorce clubes invitados a participar, cuatro tienen su sede en Acra, dos en Cape Coast, dos en Sekondi, y seis en el interior para las ciudades de Obuasi y Kumasi. El torneo fue boicoteado por los cuatro clubes de Kumasi, Asante Kotoko SC, Cornerstones, Dynamos y Evergreen. Otros clubes se retiraron durante el campeonato por lo que la competencia finalizó con solo dos clubes clasificados: Accra Hearts of Oak SC el primer campeón y Sekondi Eleven Wise subcampeón.

El primer campeonato oficial tiene lugar en 1958 en el Estado independiente de Ghana, incluyó ocho clubes y el Accra Hearts of Oak SC se proclamó como el primer campeón nacional oficial.
