Jane E. Buikstra

Jane Ellen Buikstra (Evansville, Indiana, 2 de noviembre de 1945) es una antropóloga y bioarqueóloga estadounidense.^[1]​^[2]​^[3]​ Su artículo de 1977 sobre las dimensiones biológicas de la arqueología acuñó y definió el campo de la bioarqueología en los EE.UU., así como la aplicación de métodos antropobiológicos al estudio de problemas arqueológicos.^[4]​ Durante su carrera, ha publicado más de 20 libros y 150 artículos.^[5]​ Su tema de investigación actual es el análisis del cementerio de Phaleron, cerca de Atenas, Grecia.^[6]​^[7]​

Biografía

Buikstra obtuvo el título de grado en Antropología en la Universidad DePauw, Indiana en 1967 y sus títulos de maestría y doctorado también en Antropología, en la Universidad de Chicago.^[8]​ Es una miembro de la Junta Americana de Antropología Forense y formó parte del Consejo Directivo durante el período 1999–2000. Ha prestado sus servicios en la Universidad Northwestern, Universidad de Chicago, y en la Universidad de Nuevo México.^[9]​ Buikstra fue previamente Leslie Spier Profesor Distinguido de Antropología en la Universidad de Nuevo México. Actualmente se desempeña como Profesor y Director del Centro para la investigación Bioarquelógica, una unidad dentro de la Escuela de Evolución Humana y Cambio Social en la Universidad Estatal de Arizona.^[10]​

Buikstra forma parte del consejo consultivo de revisón por pares de la Revista Internacional de Palaeopatología ^[11]​ y Presidente del Centro para la Arqueología americana en Kampsville, Illinois.^[12]​

Ha sido miembro de la Academia de Ciencias Nacionales desde 1987 entonces y en 2019 fue incorporada a la Academia americana de Artes y Ciencias.^[13]​^[14]​
